In a city like Delhi where space is hard to come by, the Lodhi Art District offers a refreshing escape. With its vibrant murals and green spaces, it’s the perfect spot to loiter, take a breather, and let life’s chaos hum softly in the background. So, we’ll do exactly that, a walk in the Lodhi Art District to discuss the stories behind its murals and interpret them in our own ways.
But, we’ll not stop there! Because what better way to spend a Delhi winter morning than discussing what’s on our mind through a Blackout Poetry workshop led by Aakansha, a Delhi-based visual artist, in our beautiful Lodhi Garden.
We’ll work with Delhi newspaper headlines to transform them into powerful art that will allow you to read stories between the lines, observe new emotions and break the norms of ‘the whys and the hows’ of art with a delicious cup of chai.
What is Blackout Poetry?
Blackout Poetry is about creating unique pieces of art by selectively obscuring or ‘blacking out’ parts of a page, typically from books, newspapers, or other printed materials. The unmarked words form the foundation of a new narrative or message. It is an art that is both creative and thought-provoking. The interaction of text and visual form is central to this art style.
What to Expect:
- Walk-through of India’s first and largest art-district.
- Interesting conversations about socio-cultural inspirations behind the murals.
- A blackout poetry workshop with Aakansha, a visual artist since 2016.
- An exercise of moving beyond the barriers of “how art should be” while sharing your work in a supportive, creative community.
- A cup of tea and all art supplies included in the cost.
