Delhi by Dawn offers a unique and immersive experience, showcasing the rich tapestry of history, faith, and culture that defines this vibrant city. Through conversations, interactions, and exploration, you’ll witness the beauty and diversity that emerges in the early morning hours, setting the stage for a captivating journey through Delhi’s multifaceted heritage. Early morning, we start at the Yamuna Ghat, delving into the significance of the Yamuna River in Hinduism and discussing its role in religious rituals and beliefs with a resident. Next, we head to a shelter for cows and discuss their spiritual and cultural significance along with exploring the intertwining of faith and politics.
After a refreshing tea stop, we enter an over-50-year-old Akhada, an institution dedicated to a sport featured prominently in Indian mythology: wrestling. We will interact with the team and learn about the sport’s roots and traditions and the empowering role of women in a sport that has traditionally been associated with men.
For breakfast, we savour the aromatic Nahari or Aloo Puri and engage in conversations about the transformation of Delhi over the years.
Next, we arrive at a treasure trove of old books and manuscripts to discover the rich history and cultural significance of Urdu in Delhi. We will witness the art of calligraphy from one of the last few remaining artists in the town. By participating in the workshop, you take home not just memories but also a piece of Delhi’s artistic legacy.
Finally, we offer an optional visit to the traditional sport of Kabootarbaazi, or pigeon flying. Led by a seasoned Ustaad (master) with an impressive flock of over 500 pigeons. Learn about the history, techniques, and passion that drive the preservation of this iconic sport in Old Delhi.
With each experience, you’ll uncover the layers of history and culture that make Delhi a truly captivating destination.
