We’ll walk and talk while snacking on Christmas foods with a mughal twist, like Til Paras and Namak Paras, and we’ll share stories of how christianity came to be in this city. But you cannot celebrate a festival in India, without munching on something sweet. And because you’re in good hands, we have planned for you a special Christmas cake cutting in the cozy home of a family who lives in the Christian Basti. They are also one of the last remaining christian families in Old Delhi!
We’ll visit churches , including one where prayers are whispered in Urdu, to feel the spirit of a multicultural harmony that exists only here, a place where Christmas meets the timeless syncretism of this ancient city. It’s more than a walk, it’s a celebration of love, community, and a holiday like no other.
What to expect:
- A 2.5 hour celebration of Christmas in the streets of Old Delhi with an expert walk leader.
- A walk-through of a christian festival in a non-christian neighborhood.
- Unique Stories about Christianity as a whole and its place in this city.
- A chance to join in the heartwarming celebrations of Old Delhi’s Christian Basti and hear their own personal narratives.
- Visit a church where prayers are sung in Urdu, and another where walls are inscribed in the language to actually understand the syncretism that defines a Delhi that belongs to everyone.
