Bhandup Mangroves is one of the six wetlands identified as an ecologically sensitive zone within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Every winter, Mumbai turns pink as flamingos, migratory birds that travel thousands of kilometres from regions like the Rann of Kutch and Iran in search of safe feeding grounds, make the city’s wetlands their seasonal home.

But flamingos are more than just a pretty sight. Their presence is a strong indicator of a healthy ecosystem. By feeding on algae and microorganisms, they help maintain the delicate balance of wetlands, and their annual migration reminds us why Mumbai’s mangroves and mudflats are worth protecting. In a city known for its chaos, flamingos stand for resilience, adaptation, and the coexistence of nature and urban life.

On this Flamingo Watching Tour, you’ll explore this fragile ecosystem with Yogesh, a seasoned naturalist and wildlife photographer who has spent years documenting Mumbai’s lesser-known biodiversity. With him, you won’t just spot flamingos; you’ll understand their behaviour, migration patterns, and the challenges they face in a rapidly changing city.
