What image comes to mind when someone asks, “What does Mumbai look like?”
Is it the curve of Marine Drive lit up at night, or the grand façade of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus? We often fall back on familiar visuals, postcard moments that neatly frame the city. But Mumbai is far too layered, too restless, and too personal to be captured in a single image.
Mumbai Unframed invites participants to break those boundaries and reimagine the city without limits.
Remove the frame. Let the ocean take over the streets, with trains floating on it. Create islands of cats, with taxis hanging like bats. Tear, glue, stitch, colour, overlap—build a Mumbai that feels more like home to you. Make it loud, make it colourful, make it layered, and make it yours.
You don’t need to “know art.” You don’t need to be good at drawing. Just let your instinct take over.
Because when the frame disappears, what emerges is a version of Mumbai not defined by what exists, but by how you choose to see it.
